J. CRAIG VENTER is one of the leading scientists of the 21st century for his visionary contributions in genomic research. He learned of a technique for rapidly identifying all of the mRNAs present in a cell, and began to use it to rapidly identify human brain genes.
He was the former president and founder of Celera Genomics, which became infamous for running a Human Genome Project of its own for commercial purposes, using shotgun sequencing technology in 1999. In addition to the human genome, Venter and his team at Celera sequenced the fruit fly, mouse, and rat genomes.
He is founder and president of the J. Craig Venter Institute and the J. Craig Venter Science Foundation. Research at the Venter Institute reflects Venter’s interests in advancing the science of genomics and in applying genomic advances to some of the world’s most vexing public health and environmental challenges.

Jahn, then Dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Science, to pursue rigorous scientific study of the interaction of human consciousness with sensitive physical devices, systems, and processes common to contemporary engineering practice. Since that time, an interdisciplinary staff of engineers, physicists, psychologists, and humanists has been conducting a comprehensive agenda of experiments and developing complementary theoretical models to enable better understanding of the role of consciousness in the establishment of physical reality.
This recently updated site documents the last 25 years’ research into the capabilities of human consciousness and looks at the implications, applications and future possibilities that this knowledge can be put to.
